Vegetable Garden

There is a need in our town of Ashland, Nebraska, to feed the children of our community. Almost forty per cent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Thus, the Kids’ Cupboard was formed to help provide food for the children during the summer months and school vacations. The Kids’ Cupboard is an ecumenical effort of the majority of Ashland churches and is located in the basement of American Lutheran Church at 1941 Silver.

Thanks to a grant from Thrivent Financial, the Kids’ Cupboard enjoyed  partnering with Carol Joy Holling Center, growing fresh produce for the children in the summers of 2015and 2016.  Shown are campers and camp personnel, harvesting the produce.  Thrivent Financial also gave us a grant in 2016 to offer cooking lessons to kids, using the fruits and vegetables from the garden.
